Transfer Students Scholarships
Completion of your Admissions application and formal acceptance as a University of Houston-Downtown student is required to be considered for a UHD Transfer Scholarship. You must meet the following requirements to be considered for a UHD Transfer Scholarship:
- Completion of the admission process and formal acceptance as a UHD student.
- Must have earned a minimum of 45 transfer college credit hours. Cumulative GPA requirements are listed under each scholarship. Scholarship candidates with the highest rankings will be given priority.
- All college transcripts must be received in the Admissions Office by January 10th to allow time for processing.
The approved transfer scholarship candidates will be notified by mail and their awards posted on their student portal accessible through myUHD.
New Transfer Student Scholarships 2025/2026
UHD ACCESS SCHOLARSHIP
Award
Up to the amount offered on the financial aid award portal, to cover the full cost
of attending UHD as a full-time student, including tuition and fee charges. This
award is non-refundable to the student.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Priority will be given to early applicants, admitted prior to April 30, 2025
- New transfer students who are Pell eligible incoming college GPA between 2.0 and 3.0
- FAFSA completion required
- Not available for Graduate or International students
- Non-refundable (towards billable/true costs only)
- Annualized award, Fall Spring only, full-time enrollment up to 15 credit hours per term
- Need to maintain 2.0 cum GPA for first semester to continue eligibility for the second semester
- Need to be registered for courses to be eligible for disbursement

The Admissions and Financial Aid office will review the credentials of admitted students who have a completed FAFSA and make the offer for the scholarships, based on fund availability.
HERZSTEIN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Award
$2000 per academic year - $1000 per semester
Eligibility
- Must be entering Fall as a new transfer student and accepted through Office of Admissions
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 - Submit official transcripts
- Must not have previously earned any credits at UHD.
- Minimum of 45 transfer college/university credits.
- Must enroll in 12 or more UHD college credit hours (fall and spring semesters)
- Non-renewable; not eligible to compete for continuing student scholarships

Dr. W.I. DYKES SCHOLARSHIP
Award
$1500 per academic year - $750 per semester
Eligibility
- Must have a cumulative GPA 3.0 from college/university - Submit official transcripts
- Must be entering for Fall as a new transfer student and accepted through Office of Admissions
- Must not have previously earned any credits at UHD.
- Minimum of 45 transfer college/university credits.
- Must enroll in 12 or more UHD college credit hours (fall and spring semesters)
- Resident of Harris County
- Must demonstrate citizenship
- Involved in student activities
- Non-renewable; not eligible to compete for continuing student scholarships

WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Award
$1500 per academic year - $750 per semester
Eligibility
- Must be entering Fall as a new transfer student and accepted through the Office of Admissions
- Minimum of 45 transfer college/university credits-must be classified as a junior or senior
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 from college/university - Submit official transcripts
- Must not have previously earned any credits at UHD.
- Must enroll in 12 or more UHD college credit hours (fall and spring semesters)
- Financial need may be considered
- Non-renewable; not eligible to compete for continuing student scholarships

WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Award
$1000 per academic year - $500 per semester
Eligibility
- Must be entering Fall as a new transfer student and accepted through the Office of Admissions
- Minimum of 15 transfer college/university credits
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 from college/university - Submit official transcripts
- Must not have previously earned any credits at UHD
- Must enroll between 6 TO 11 UHD college credit hours (fall and spring semesters)
- Financial need may be considered
- Non-renewable; not eligible to compete for continuing student scholarships

AUTREY SCHOLARSHIP
Award
$1500 per academic year - $750 per semester
Eligibility
- Must be entering Fall as a new transfer student and accepted through Office of Admissions
- Student must be of good moral character
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 - Submit official transcripts
- Must not have previously earned any credits at UHD.
- Minimum of 45 transfer college/university credits.
- Must enroll in 12 or more UHD college credit hours (fall and spring semesters)
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Non-renewable; not eligible to compete for continuing student scholarships

DEANS SCHOLARSHIP
Award
$2000 per academic year - $1000 per semester
Eligibility
- Must be entering Fall as a transfer student and accepted through the Office of Admissions
- Minimum of 45 transfer college/university credits
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 - Submit official transcripts
- Must not have previously earned any credits at UHD
- Must enroll in 12 or more UHD college credit hours (fall and spring semester)
- May be renewable up to 4 semesters - Fall and Spring awards, if renewable criteria are met each semester, not eligible to compete for continuing student scholarships
- Renewal of awards is contingent upon successful completion of 12 credit hours and
maintaining a 3.0 GPA at the end of each semester.
