Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

Job Summary

The Storage Systems Administrator I administers and maintains all storage, backup, and recovery systems and related infrastructure for the university.

Duties

  • Administers and maintains storage systems
  • Administers and maintains backup and restore protocols
  • Administers and maintains network critical physical infrastructure
  • Administers and maintains monitoring systems
  • Administers and maintains server hardware

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Associate's degree, vocational certificate, or sixty (60) hours of completed college course work (work experience can be considered in lieu of education requirements)

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Experience with Dell Poweredge servers and storage , Lenovo servers and storage, Cohesity and Brocade equipment is preferred

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of storage area network protocols, and the related trends, issues, and accepted practices

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks.
  • May, on rare occasions, be exposed to the risk of an electric shock
  • Must have the ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 100lbs
  • May be asked to respond to problems or provide service after hours
  • Expected to carry and respond to cell phone at all times
