Taking time away from work is an important part of staying healthy, balanced, and supported—both personally and professionally. UHD's employee leave offerings are designed to help you navigate life’s moments, whether planned or unexpected, while maintaining continuity at work.
On these pages, you’ll find key guidelines on eligibility and how to utilize leave:
Family and Medical/Parental Leave
Eligible employees may qualify for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for certain medical conditions under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. This includes the birth or placement of a child. To learn more about FML and Parental Leave, visit the Family and Medical/Parental Leave page.
Unpaid Leave
Employees may be granted leave without pay for a sufficient reason and with a supervisor's approval. To initiate the process for leave without pay, you must submit a request in writing with a specified return date to your immediate supervisor. Please keep in mind that during a leave without pay period your employee benefits are affected.
Additional Kinds of Leave
As a regular employee at UHD, you are entitled to leave benefits designated under the State Appropriations Act and other statutory standards. Included are the following other types of leave benefits:
- Bereavement
- Blood donations
- Jury duty
- Education activities leave
- Voting
