Welcome from the Chief of Police

Greetings, Gator Community!

It is with immense pride and genuine sense of excitement that I step into the role of Chief of Police here at the University of Houston-Downtown.  This transition is particularly meaningful to me because I am also a proud UHD alum.  Returning to my alma mater to lead a team of dedicated professionals is a true homecoming.  I know firsthand the energy, ambition, and grit that define our students, and I am honored to protect the community that helped shape my own journey.

At the UHD Police Department, our work is deeply rooted in the university's mission to develop talent, generate knowledge, and drive socioeconomic mobility.  We are more than just a law enforcement agency; we are partners in your academic success.  Our vision is to maintain a campus where safety serves as the foundation for excellence, ensuring UHD remains a "university of choice" for all Houstonians.

Our commitment is simple: Safety for all.  Whether you are a student, faculty, staff member, or visitor, your well-being is our top priority.  In alignment with our shared values of integrity, respect, and inclusive excellence, we are steadfast in:

Stay Informed: Everbridge and SafeZone

Communication is vital to a safe campus.  We utilize two primary tools to keep you informed and empowered:

  • Everbridge Mass Notification System:  UHD uses Everbridge to send critical emergency alerts via email, text, and phone calls.  whether it's severe weather or an urgent campus matter, this is our fastest way to reach you.  Please ensure your contact information is up to date in the university system to stay in the loop.
  • SafeZone App: I personally encourage every Gator to download the SafeZone app.  It provides a direct link to UHD PD, allowing for immediate assistance, "Check-In" features for those studying late, and real-time safety updates.

I look forward to seeing you around campus--not just as your Chief, but as a fellow Gator.  Together, we will ensure that the University of Houston Downtown remains a premier, safe, and  welcoming environment for everyone.
